daqXML provides a standard to describe instruments and measurements. daqXML can be used in the design, the deployment and the operations of small to large, distributed, and heterogeneous, data acquisition systems.

At the foundation of the daqXML concept lies the daqML schema. This an open software developement promoted by Adance. The latest versions of the schema can be dowloaded from the daqXML web site, sourceforge and the xml.org registry

Associated to the daqXML schema, the process for designing, implementing, running data acquisition systems and the distribution of the data collected has been modeled using  UML

Following the schema, once can create a template request for a specific measurement station. The template request can be loaded into the station for execution. Once executed, the acquired data is appended t-o he the request file and the resulting file contains the data and the configuration description.

The template file can also be published, so other persons interested can retrieve, modify it and submit a valid request. XSL transformation can be used to create a form that users can use to customize the request.

A station that is on line can be fed a session template or it can retrieve one from a remote server.

An XSL transformation can be used to automatically generate a form that a user can fill to customize it's request.
